Finland clears N Stream-2 pipe construction providing 2nd permit

MOSCOW, Apr 12 (PRIME) -- Finland provided the second and final permit required to construct and operate a 374-kilometer section of the Nord Stream-2 natural gas pipeline in the country’s exclusive economic zone, the project’s operator Nord Stream 2 AG said in a statement on Thursday.

“Project developer Nord Stream 2 AG today received the second of two permits required to construct and operate the planned natural gas pipeline in the Finnish Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), completing the permitting procedure in Finland,” the statement read.

The second permit was granted by the Regional State Administrative Agency Southern Finland in accordance with the Water Act.

On April 5, Nord Stream 2 AG was granted the Finnish government’s consent for the use of the country’s exclusive economic zone.

The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom will implement the project together with its European partners – Shell, OMV, Engie, Uniper, and Wintershall.

Nord Stream 2 AG received all necessary permits from Germany in late March. The company still needs permits from Russia, Denmark and Sweden.
